Thank you for trying out our demo!

We at The Official Scorer greatly appreciate your taking some time to try out our demo team. Our hope is that you will be able to experience The Official Scorer through being a user of this demo team. Your demonstration experience is almost equivalent to that of a 'manager' within the site. As a manager you can visit all of the pages available to a typical team manager with one significant exception--we do not allow you to save any changes you have made to the Demo team's data--including the roster, schedule, field locations, game data, or team home page. As a result, when using our demo all of the Save buttons are disabled. In spite of that limitation, we hope you enjoy this demonstration and will choose to subscribe to the Official Scorer!

Customizable Home Page Team News

Since you are reading the text of this news item, you can see that one of the many features of the The Official Scorer is the ability to create team news and have them displayed on your team's home page. In fact, this very item is a news item. If you are signed in as the Demo team's manager, you can not only read the item as you are now, but you may also add, edit, and delete news items. If you click on the 'News Setup' menu item in the menu pane to the left, you will be presented with the 'Home Page News Setup' page. On this page you can see the list of existing news items. If you click on the Headline for any one of the news items, you will be taken to the 'News Item' edit page. You can control the headline, body, and display order of all news items.

Publish Your Own Team Photo Album

The Official Scorer allows you to upload and publish via your team's home page up to three images. These images are shown in the right-hand pane of your team's home page. A sample image for the Demo team is shown.

Site Maintenance

Thank you for your patience this morning. Site maintenance activity took longer than expected this morning, but as can be seen, the site is now back up and running.

Getting Started Hints

Thank you for using the Official Scorer! Please read this "Getting Started Hints" section—it will help speed you on your way to enjoying the Official Scorer. This section includes suggestions for what to do first and for how to set up the Official Scorer initially. If you follow these hints, you will find the software more intuitive.

These Getting Started Hints, in your team's home page, can only be viewed by a user who is logged in as a "manager". That's you! Any coaches or players you add to your roster will not see these hints in their version of your team's home page. In addition, you may disable these hints for yourself by clicking on the menu command "Home Page Setup" and checking off the item under Official Scorer Generated News labeled "Include Getting Started Hints". By default, these hints were turned on when you created your team, but you may turn them off if desired.

Roster

Your roster has 23 players on it.

You will need to communicate the three sign-in parameters to your teammates. Teamname is shared by everyone on your team, while Username and Password are unique to individual players. It is also recommended that you provide a valid email address for each player—so that you may take full advantage of the Broadcast News feature.

Fields

 You have created 6 fields.

The expression 'field' is used to refer to the location where your team will play its ballgames. Take the time to enter all of your playing venues, including home and away. In addition, it is highly recommended that you enter accurate and precise address information for each field. The Official Scorer provides a link to MapQuest's map feature—the usefulness and accuracy of which is dependent upon how good your address information is. Providing your own written directions and helping MapQuest present an accurate map to your playing venues is one of the most valuable features of the Official Scorer—helping to cutdown on the number of phone calls you'll have to make!

Schedule

Your schedule has 34 games on it.

Filling in your team's complete schedule is of course important with respect to communicating this information to your team in its own right. In addition, post-game data cannot be entered for games that are not on your schedule. Don't overloook a very useful aspect of the scheduling feature—day of game update notification to your teammates. In the event of inclement weather, you can instruct your players to look first to your team home page and schedule page for any postponement notification. This will help you cut down on the number of phone calls you would otherwise be required to make.

Lineup

Your lineup has 9 players in it.

Setting up your lineup will help you in a number of ways. The Lineup feature provides you with a place to think about and tinker with your lineup easily. In addition, once you've set your lineup, you may take advantage of the Scorecard and Lineup Card printout features—helping ease your game day chores. Finally, having set a lineup will ease your post-game data entry task—where the Official Scorer will then prompt you for player data in the most natural order.

Team Homepage

Take the time to customize your team's home page. The Official Scorer automatically gives you a team home page as soon as you create your team. However, initially your team's home page is basically a blank page. It's up to you as the team manager to provide content to make it an interesting and effective communication tool.

The Team Hompage features are intended to be simple and easy to use. You have control over the following homepage elements: banner text, team logo, images, news, and a weather sticker. These Getting Started Hints are shown only to managers—so your players and coaches will not see them. Use the Homepage Setup page to control all elements of your team's home page with the exception of news items. Use the News Setup page to add, edit, or delete team news.

Game Results — How to generate season stats and boxscores

The Official Scorer calculates all results based upon the game data that you enter—including the won-loss record shown on your team's schedule. The data you enter is everything! Use the Game Results pages to enter your post-game data.

The Batting, Pitching, and Fielding pages provide the place where you'll enter your post-game individual results for each of these categories. The Official Scorer uses the individual batting results you provide to determine how many runs your team scored; likewise, the number of individual runs allowed you indicate for your pitchers is summed to determine how many runs your team allowed in a game. The combined number of innings pitched for you pitcher's for a game determines how many innings long a game is. The Game Results Overall page provides a place to enter the following post-game information for both teams: runner's left on base, inning-by-inning linescore, and highlights.
